Five new startups join MobilityXlab to collaborate with leaders in the mobility industry

Wednesday, June 14, 2023

The future of transportation and mobility needs to be climate-neutral, safe and connected. To help reach these goals faster, five startups were invited to join MobilityXlab, the platform to promote collaboration between emerging companies and mobility leaders CEVT, Ericsson, Polestar, Veoneer, Volvo Cars, Volvo Group and Zenseact.

The startups joining the 11th batch of MobilityXlab are: Actasys (United States), Bioenvision (Norway), Entroview (France), Fever Energy (Sweden), and Provizio (Ireland). They will now participate in the program for at least six months to co-create solutions in technologies ranging from energy grid flexibility for electric vehicles to bio-based materials.

By joining the program, the startups get access to the important mobility cluster Lindholmen Science Park in Gothenburg, Sweden. To Nils Mösko, Chairperson at MobilityXlab and Head of Strategy and Business Development at Polestar, that is one of the main benefits of the program. He says: “West Sweden, especially Gothenburg, is such an exciting region for mobility and tech development. There is a lot of potential in tech development right now and in the future, and it is great to be able to gather startups and the industry here.”

To be invited into the program, a startup needs to be selected by at least two of its industry partners. This reinforces knowledge sharing and increases the outcomes for Proof of Concept (PoC) and validation projects. Barry Lunn, CEO and co-founder of the startup Provizio, highlights the benefits of being able to validate their technology in MobilityXlab. He says: “The focus that MobilityXlab has on validation projects is what attracted us. It is extremely valuable for a startup to work together with industry experts and get a deep understanding of what is their real-life application for our products.”

Provizio produces a system that fuses their proprietary imaging radars with lidar, and camera imaging to expand the vehicle’s perception of the traffic conditions or obstacles. This can improve the deployment of autonomous vehicles and increase their safety, contributing to the Vision Zero goal of no fatalities or serious injuries through road accidents.

MobilityXlab was founded in 2017 with the mission to accelerate global innovation based on the Swedish collaboration culture. And after five years and 18 accelerations through commercial contracts or partnerships, the formula has proved to be a success. Katarina Brud, director at MobilityXlab says: “Our core differential is structured collaboration, and to achieve that we involve the partners in all steps of the program. This coordination and deep involvement is what allows the collaboration to successfully happen between the startups and our partners, but also among the partners themselves.”

“We have reached almost 100 validation projects in the program, which attests that startup-corporate collaboration is very efficient to attract talent, enhance the innovation ecosystem, and strengthen the Swedish lead in the mobility sector,” she concludes.

The selection process for MobilityXlab takes place twice a year and the next application period opens in August 2023.

Meet the startups joining Batch 11

Actasys – United States

Actasys safeguards vision sensor functionality from the elements. With our proprietary air-jet actuators at their core, our solutions evaluate performance, correct functional impairment through responsive cleaning and/or cooling applications, and report on sensor functionality - all in real time.

Bioenvision – Norway

Bioenvision protects lives and the environment through offering green and sustainable flame-retardant solutions to leading technology and material providers worldwide. We push the boundaries of materials using our advanced POSS technology in a wide range of applications and industries as automotive, electronics, cables, construction and coatings, as well as water-repellent and barrier additives.

Entroview – France

Entroview develops software to diagnose lithium batteries to accelerate production and extend their lifetime and safety. We offer battery producers software that detects defects at the end of the line in 10 hours instead of 8 days.

Fever Energy – Sweden

Fever provides a platform for aggregators who want to participate in balancing markets in an automated and optimized way. Fevers' platform ensures that partners get the most out of their energy resources by optimizing flexibility and additional energy services.

Provizio – Ireland

Provizio has developed 5D Perception®, an affordable, super-resolution radar backboned, safety system that gives every driver 360-degree insight in all weather conditions and paves a true path to autonomy.
